Rock Grates, Heat Plates & Heat Angles
Types:
Rock grates hold briquettes above a gas grill’s burner, protecting it from drippings by vaporizing them to improve flavor. Heat plates and heat angles serve the same purposes but are used without briquettes. For some models, a choice of grates, plates, and angles are available.
Most rock grates are rectangular, but a few other shapes exist. Click the grate illustration below which best matches your original part to go to a page listing all available grids of that type.
All heat plates and angle types are also pictured below. Most plates are sold singly, but some are sold in sets of two. Most heat angles are sold in sets, but a few models are sold singly.
Dimensions:
The front to back dimension (depth) is critical to rock grate fit. As a general rule, a replacement grate (angle or heat plate) must be within three sixteenths of an inch (0.1875”) of the original part in this dimension to fit. You should measure your grill to make sure the replacement grate will fit before buying a part with a front-to-back dimension different from the original part.
The width of a grate is much less critical. A replacement can be a few inches narrower than the original and still be useful.
